We know that simplicity is the best lifestyle. Some people say, “Make it simple, I want less trouble." In actual fact, there is no way for us to live a simple lifestyle, because this world is getting more complicated each day. We are exhausted, not because we have aged or we have to shoulder more responsibilities; it is because we are bombarded with new rules and regulations, information and technology. Therefore in this age of rapid change, creativity is more important than knowledge. At times, being logical may not be good enough.
Apparently, when selecting potential candidates, Bill Gates of Microsoft would not pay much attention to qualification, working experience and intelligence. The person who is intelligent but not good at working is totally impractical; the one who is good at working but has no intelligence is no good either. Therefore, he set question like “how would you move Mt.Fuji” to test the candidates’ creativity. What he wants are people who can think out of the box and find a wholesome solution. He believes that people who can stretch their imagination can make better decision.
This is a true story that I heard: An artist went to Beijing with his paintings. When he moved into the house he was going to stay, he discovered that the house was in a bad shape with spider webs all over the place, and worst of all, it was dim and stuffy as there was no window. Yet, he did not walk out. Instead, he laughed and took out a piece of paper on which he drew a window and pasted it on the wall. His painting was so good that the window looked real. It made one feel that ‘sunlight’ is shining through the ‘window’, bringing warmth into the room. An otherwise dull room suddenly turned alive. This artist later became famous.
When you feel trapped within ‘four walls’, create a ‘window’ in your heart and let the ‘sunshine’ in. The sunshine in the window symbolize positive attitude. If you have faith in the goodness, kindness and the endless available possibilities, then that will be what your life will consist of.
